Mother Superior takes Baron Zemo on a mystical voyage through the horrors of human history to make him enlarge his “field of vision” and embrace the darkness of the Red Skull’s plan. She then drills him in an even more vicious style of fighting so that he may defeat Captain America….
Cap, meanwhile, arrives in Virginia to visit disabled-veteran-turned-pacifist Dave Cox, once his rival for the hand of Sharon Carter. They talk about her tragic death though Dave now has a wife and child. Cap confides in Dave about his guilt over forgetting Sharon now that he is involved with Bernie Rosenthal. After their talk Cap is feeling better and departs for New York in an Avenger craft. As soon as he is gone, Mother Superior and Baron Zemo capture Dave and whisk him away to Skull House for brainwashing….
On their nightly patrol, Cap sums up the adventure on Battleworld (the entire 12-issue SECRET WARS miniseries falls between last issue and this one) for his new partenr Nomad and the two spy a robber making his getaway from a shop. Nomad swoops down and punches the crook out and Cap flies into a rage, berating him for using his enhanced strength against an ordinary hood. His feelings hurt, Nomad takes off across the rooftops. A penitent Cap heads after him and finds his badly beaten partner on a fire escape. Soon Cap is facing a one-armed mace-wielding villain called the Slayer—who is the brainwashed Dave Cox. Cap takes him on but Slayer has a cloak that allows him to teleport in and out and he quickly pops behind Cap and knocks him out. A wounded Nomad now faces the madman….
