Comments: The cover has Carnage mimicking a military figure at attention. Title parodies a line from the American National Anthem: “The dawn's early light.”

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Carnage USA #5 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The Carnage and Venom symbiotes, having been separated from their hosts, flee into the wild where they come upon the animals that have escaped from the Ralsby zoo. Soon the freed Avengers are facing the mutated animals....

At the packing plant, Cletus Kasady is about to kill the legless Flash Thompson—and then Kasady's mechanical legs fall apart, evening the odds....

And the sun is rising, the deadline for Mercury Team to complete its mission—and now the entire town is about to be bombed off the map.

Then Scorn arrives with a sonic disruptor to take down the animals. Captain America is able to contact the authorities and limit the bombing to the small area that Carnage has been herded into. And the gorilla with the Venom symbiote hurries to the packing plant so that Flash regains his Venom powers and defeats Kasady. Scorn scrapes up the remnant of Carnage to take back to the lab. Eric Morrell tries to kill the captive Kasady but Spider-Man stops him—and then Spidey learns that Carnage had killed one of Eric's children. As Wolverine and Hawkeye survey the ruins of the town they wonder if they really had stopped Carnage....
