Continued from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
ANNUAL #38.
With Deadpool, Spider-Man, and
Bruce Banner of Earth-616 thrown into a parallel world, Deadpool has met
his counterpart, a green-clad goof called Death Wish. The two go on a
buddy-buddy frolic which ends when 'Pool learns that his alter ego
isn't Wade Wilson—in this universe, Wade is the armored crimelord
Death Mask (who resembles Dr Doom) as he arrives to execute his
bumbling minion for botching his last assignment (stealing the
dimension portal). Our Wade Wilson vows revenge on the other Wade
Wilson....
At the “Spider-Cave,” 616 Bruce
Banner and Spider-Man (the latter in the guise of this world's
Amazing Spider) try to get the dimension portal working again; Spidey
drops the bombshell that in this dimension, Bruce Banner used magic
to banish the Hulk, and he is now Sorcerer Supreme, shocking Bruce.
Deadpool arrives with the corpse of Death Wish, asking for Spidey's
help; DNA shows that Death Wish was Victor von Doom, whose life fell
apart when the Fantastic Four disbanded. While Spidey is distracted,
Deadpool downloads all the info on Death Mask's criminal empire, then
he sets off on a mission of vengeance. He destroys various criminal
operations, executing minions Brain Dead (Hammerhead), Deadeye
(Bullseye), Dead Head (MODOK) and Bob (Bob). Then he enters Wilson
Tower easily, since all of the security measures attest to his being
Wade Wilson, and confronts his enemy, knocks him flat with a bomb,
swaps costumes, and enlists henchman Dead Weight (Wilson Fisk) in
loading him in a boat full of explosives and sending him out into the
bay to be blown to (slowly-healing) bits....
Then he spends his evenings defacing
Death Mask's collection of magic tomes and hurling them out of the
windows—and then the Amazing Spider comes to call, intending to put
the armored crimelord out of business...and then Spidey recognizes
the villain to be 616 Deadpool, who has already put the armored
crimelord out of business, making him the hero for a change.
[Downstairs, the real Death Mask, having healed enough to walk again,
is heading toward the Tower—and he gets conked on the noggin by a
falling magic book and dies.] 'Pool insists that Spidey give him a
hug for his victories (it's as uncomfortable for Spidey as you would
think) and that's that....
No, there's an epilogue: Death
Mask/Wade Wilson arrives in Hell and faces Mephisto; he offers a
deal: Mephisto gets him in eternal servitude and all the devil need
do is unbind the seal that keeps the monsters in Hell—including the
Infernal Hulk....
