Ares arrives on the battlefield and Tyr is concerned about the high level of carnage but Ares is the God of War, all the mayhem honors him….

In the battle, Runa (riding Mister Horse) calls to Sif to allow her to face the Disir, her former sisters. Arngrim/Kurse attacks Runa and she knocks him into one of the purple holes. She faces the Disir but transports herself to Nidavellir to call in a favor owed her by Asta the Dwarf….

In LiveWorld, Jane Foster and Thor Odinson watch the little girl play with her dolls which are the shrunken captives of Asgard. Jane becomes Valkyrie as the kid “grows up” into Dreamqueen who opens up a purple hole in the sky so Thor can see the destruction of Asgard. S’ym and some other demons arrive so Jane and Thor rush for Skidbladnir with Dreamqueen’s little figures. DQ is not worried as the Asgardian craft is chained so S’ym tells her Jane Val’s sword is made of Promethium. Jane cuts the chains and the ship takes off….

Beta Ray Bill and Sif stand up to Ares’ forces….

Runa has Asta forge her a weapon with part of her soul in it…

The shrunken Asgardians recover their original forms, including Volstagg and Hildegarde, as the ship reaches Asgard. Thor leads his group into battle and sheer chaos ensues. Runa arrives with her new sword and uses it to take control of the Disir, explaining that she wants to free them from their curse. Runa sends them to destroy Tyr’s fleet. Jane Val shapes Undrjarn into a bow that fires an arrow containing Promethium into Ares’ chest and Thor knocks him into a purple hole. S’ym and his minions arrive; Thor calls Mjolnir to him but Jane intercepts it, pointing out that he has won and he should allow his enemies to surrender….

Amora the Enchantress is pleased with the outcome….

Thori captures Tyr and he surrenders. There is feasting in Asgard. Runa reminisces with her sisters. Jane Assures Thor that he’s doing a good job as King of Asgard.

Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor #5 Review by (October 5, 2022)

Review: And so the miniseries ends. Somewhere along the line I lost track of the story and never quite got it back. There were some cool bits and the Disir were too scary not to return, though it looks like they may be on the good guys’ side now. Wait, who was the lady with the mask in the first issue? Did I miss something? Was it Dreamqueen? She is listed as being in issue #1 in the Marvel Database. Missed that too and I don’t think it’s entirely my fault. Too many characters, too sprawling a story. Ares’ character seems off, Thor looks like an immature wimp, there’s not enough Thori who is the best thing in the title. What did Amora have to do with anything? Oh and it’s finally explained nearly at the end that Dreamqueen was supposed to hold Thor in her realm while Ares conquered Asgard but what Jane did to free them is still a bit vague. Poorly organized review for a poorly organized comic. Seems fitting.

Comments: Runa and the Disir return in THOR #29. Dreamqueen was introduced in ALPHA FLIGHT #56; all of her appearances until this miniseries were in that book. Colors by Jesus Aburtov and Erick Arciniega. Issue includes a tribute to the late Mike Pasciullo, Marvel marketing executive.
