Story continued from THE INVADERS #6.
At the NYC radio station, Bucky and
Thin Man see the mind-controlled Human Torch flying at them; they
head up to the roof with a plan. Thin Man distracts Torch while Bucky
shoots a fire hose at him—but the plan fails because Torch can
dodge! When they recover from their soaking they find the Torch has
vanished....
But we see he's arrived at the
Red Skull's secret headquarters—hidden in the basement of the radio
station. The baddies discover that the hypnotized heroes head
straight for the Nullatron when summoned (this will be important
later). The Skull resumes his identity of Bettman Lyles (see INVADERS
#5) to check up on the Liberty Legion. They show him Toro has been
rescued and reconverted. Later, the Red Skull challenges the Liberty
Legion to face his captive Invaders in a fight to the finish at
Yankee Stadium....
On the day of the fight, the
Legionnaires are waiting at the stadium before a full crowd; the Red
Skull's dirigible passes overhead and the Invaders are dropped from
the sky. The several heroes battle across the ballpark, the fight
going first one way then another. Bucky then reveals that he was
impersonating Toro who was still brainwashed; the real Toro is now
brought out of his sedation and flames on, flying directly toward the
Nullatron—and he ignites the hydrogen, completely destroying the
Red Skull and his operation. The Invaders snap out of their trances
and the two teams leap into action, saving the crowd from the falling
debris. Then they all become pals, the Invaders planning to fight in
Europe while the Liberty Legion guards the home front.
