Original Sins #1 Review by (March 25, 2023)
This is an anthology series to accompany the Original Sin mini-series/event. All the stories in the series are 1-offs except the Young Avengers which is a serial in all 5 issues. It is placed  as the 2nd of 3 tales in each issue. But I've listed it 1st because it's the only continuing feature (and because it's why I'm writing up this series anyway).

Note that this title appeared every other week.

The 3 Young Avengers are here following the end of the 2nd YA series. We aren't told why the other YA aren't involved, especially Teddy's boyfriend Billy Kaplan (Wiccan) or Billy's 'brother' Tommy Shepherd (Speed) or even late addition America Chavez. But Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) has teamed up with the other Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Loki is persona non grata, Eli Bradley (Patriot) has long retired and Cassie Lang (Stature) is currently dead.

Hood rose to prominence as a gang boss after he came into possession of a magic cloak. Later he gained demonic powers but they were eventually taken away. He was last seen using the Infinity Gems as a substitute in Avengers (2010) #7-12 but they were taken away too. However he's still got the hooded cloak.

The intro to the next YA episode says that Hood was keeping all the occupants of the apartment building quiet and invisible, but that's not obvious to me here.

This is Henry Hayes 1st app. He'll have his own Deathlok series before moving on to Agents Of SHIELD and other stuff. His series will also feature the earlier DL Michael Collins.

For the record Lockjaw has just previously been hanging out with the new Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) so I don't know why she refused to help him. He'll pop up next in All-New Invaders #8.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Original Sins #1 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
In Brooklyn Teddy Altman (Hulkling) learns via the internet about Exterminatrix fighting loads of heroes in Manhattan (see Original Sin #2-3). He contacts fellow member of the Young Avengers David Alleyn (Prodigy) by text message and they agree that Noh-Varr (Marvel Boy) should be told what his ex-girlfriend is doing. But MB doesn't respond to text or even to an actual voice call.

We see that Noh-Varr (an alien Kree from another timeline) is in his space station drowning his sorrows in pizza and sad music over breaking up with Kate Bishop (Hawkeye). But genius Prodigy hacks into his space shuttle and gets it to pick him and Teddy up and take them there. They show Noh what's happening and he decides to go down to investigate. David wants to stay in space but Noh's not happy leaving someone in his 'house'.

They're in the shuttle but the fight's over and SHIELD have New York City cordoned off. Noh persuades Teddy to use his half-Skrull shape-shifting to imitate SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson to get them permission to land. 'Phil' butters up the Agent in charge and the ploy succeeds.

On the ground they find the area deserted apart from a mad woman who comes out of her home to declare that 1 of them is a liar and she doesn't want to catch a disease if they touch her. Teddy bulks up to his Hulking body, shredding his normal clothes but revealing his expanding uniform underneath.

They enter her apartment building and find all the rooms a mess and seemingly unoccupied. Then suddenly someone invisible kicks Hulking and Marvel Boy in the head. And the demonic gang boss Hood appears out of nowhere hovering near the ceiling. His levitating cloak has long strips of cloth attached, some of which have the woman tied up and gagged. He removes a mask from his face and a breathing tube from down his throat. Then he says he's glad to see them, especially Prodigy.

Story 1:- Terminus introducing Deathlok (Henry Hayes)

Writer Nathan Edmondson. Pencils/inks Mike Perkins. Colours Andy Troy.

In an MTA Metro North station Henry Hayes chats to a fellow vet with a plastic prosthetic leg. He advises him to contact Biotek who gave *him* a cybernetic version. Now he works for Doctors Without Borders.

Then he is approached by SHIELD Agent Seth Horne who tells him he was present when the Watcher's eye exploded (Original Sin #2) spraying secrets everywhere. He says he got to see that Hayes is really a Deathlok cyborg soldier/assassin. SHIELD has been hunting the Deathlok for a while, but personally he's a fan. Henry doesn't know what he's talking about and walks away.

But a surveillance guy has been alerted to the exchange and his boss tells him to take care of it. A destination board in the station clears and displays the trigger phrase Whiskey David which is detected by HH's cybernetic eye. He follows Horne into a deserted washroom and kills him.

Then he walks back out as Henry who doesn't remember what he just did. He takes a pill and rings his daughter Aria offering to get takeout for them.

Story 3:- Buried Memory starring Lockjaw

Writer Stuart Moore. Pencils/inks Rick Geary. Colours Ive Svorcina.

The Watcher's exploding eye gives the Inhumans' dog Lockjaw a forgotten memory of his own. He teleports around trying to get someone to help him but everyone's too busy. Some like Captain America, Ms Marvel, Human Torch and Spider-Man are doing random stuff, but some are involved in scenes from Original Sin #2. Luke Cage is fighting Mindless Ones. Black Panther and Emma Frost discover dead monsters in Subterranea. But he eventually persuades Iron Man to help him. He teleports them to the Moon where they excavate a hole for the dog to retrieve a giant bone.
