Synopsis

Roxxon Presents: Thor #1 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thor is brought before Odin who explains that his having turned Thor into Don Blake to teach him humility was a lie. It was a test of featly so now Thor is commanded to get a haircut and go to Earthgard and take a job in tech to make money….

And so, under the guise of Chad Hammer, Thor takes an executive job with Roxxon and carries a Roxxon-branded Mjolnir. A gorgeous woman gushes over him and he points out to her his Thor-Truck, listing its particulars which can be accessed with a Roxxbook account. He returns to Roxxon headquarters to find young people protesting the corporation’s misdeeds and calls down a storm to blow them away, mourning the fact that he only wanted them to think he was cool….

The Minotaur explains to Thor that the youth are misguided, unaware that a world without Roxxon would be a horror, and quality of life is also the best, foreseeing the future of wealthy people living in domes (as seen in IMMORTAL THOR #9). Thor deduces it must be Loki behind the protests….

So while Loki is indoctrinating the youth with environmental messages, Thor goes to the beach to find his Broskis Three (Enchantress, Executioner, and Heimdall) who are undergoing a bit of soap opera at the moment. See, Skurge loves Amora but she has eyes only for Thor. Thor arrives and the Roxxon Eliza device tells him what he wants to know about Loki so he and his Broskis invade Loki’s lair. Loki casts a spell that would trap Thor in a false world….

***And at this point, the real Thor is shocked and appalled at what he is reading. Dario “the Minotaur” Agger explains that self-parody is the best way to capture the minds of the masses, by making them think they are all in on the joke.***

The Broskis depart and return with Roxxspexx, a virtual reality viewer that allows Thor to see the truth and defeat Loki and his hippie minions….

Thor returns to Asgard where Odin has Gaia and Minotaur explains to Thor how unrestricted capitalism is the only way to live. And Odin hands over a cash bonus to “Chad Hammer.”

Story continued in IMMORTAL THOR #10.

Review / Commentaries

Roxxon Presents: Thor #1 Review by (April 17, 2024)

Review: Self-parody but self-parody with a purpose. The machinations of the rich and powerful are presented in a silly comic book, lulling the readers into a false sense of irony so that they miss the real dangers. I can only hope I’ve given an adequate view of the story as it works on several levels and is full of tiny details (such as hinting at the huge number of advertisements surrounding the comic story which have been “omitted” in the online version) with blatant product placement. This is one of the most “meta” Marvel comics I’ve seen.

Comments: Follows THE IMMORTAL THOR #9. “Green” in the title is not a reference to the Hulk but to the environmentalist movement. Issue includes a tribute to the late Paul Neary, former editor-in-chief at Marvel UK, among other things.
