Thor #6 Review by (October 17, 2018)

Review: So this is how the Marvel Universe ends, not with a bang or a whimper but with the promise of a very dark sequel somewhere, somehow. And Loki is the only one left standing. Somehow, that makes sense while leaving little ground for comfort. Good thing it's only a comic book. And again guest artist Christian Ward shows us a side of power we've never seen before with the clashing colors of the universe illuminating a battle among the last gods. Whoo.

Comments: The story of how Ego became the Necroworld by the power of the Necrosword was related in THE MIGHTY THOR #700.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Thor #6 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

On New Midgard at the end of time, the humans are surprised to see the godlike Doctor Doom come down among them. Doom realizes this garden Thor has created sits on the site of Latveria and he burns it to the ground with the wave of a hand. The humans oppose him as the devil but the Goddesses of Thunder arrive to do battle. They hit him at once with everything they've got—and nothing happens. Doom who is the Starbrand, the Iron Fist, the Spirit of Vengeance, and the Sorcerer Supreme responds with a gesture that clobbers the Goddesses mightily, entangling them in mystic bands. Doom sends his minions Fin Fang Foom, Goom, Gorgilla, and Monstrum to destroy all life on the planet. Then All-Father Thor and Wolverine-Phoenix arrive to challenge him....

Interlude: A worm has challenged Ego the Necroworld
to battle. While the former Living Planet can't seem to harm the worm, Ego thinks that the worm can't harm him. The worm begins whispering....

Thor and Logan mix it up with the overpowered Doom who ends up spitting fire from his mouth and incinerating Logan. The villain then turns the Penance Stare on Thor, forcing him to feel the fire of every sin he's committed at once. But Logan, a flaming skeleton, rises and takes on the foe but Thor is so prostrated by despair and guilt that he cannot respond. Logan transfers the Phoenix Force into Mjolnir and dies—and Thor takes up the hammer and the Phoenix and tears into Doom; the two go crashing into the crust of Midgard, battling for centuries, shaking the world as it grows older...
...then one day the shaking stops. Doom's mask goes floating on lava from a volcano. Victorious Thor emerges from a hole in the ground—and dies. A child informs them that the real darkness is awake again and is coming for them all....

Interlude: After only 99 years, the worm's incessant whispering threatens to drive Ego mad and the planet hands over to the power of the Necrosword to the worm, who stands revealed as
Loki the Necrogod, Loki the All-Butcher. Loki...the End. And it is the End.
