Review / Commentaries

Thor (1966 series) #169 Review by (August 14, 2012)
This story has significant alterations from its original pages before publication. John Morrow, publisher/editor of The Jack Kirby Collector, has reassembled the original pages and demonstrated that the Taa sequence was not in the original pages and may be an edited-out sequence from Fantastic Four to which Kirby once referred. Morrow further speculated that Kirby intended the "Secret" of Galactus to be that the Watcher accidentally created him. His subsequent guilt over unleashing Galactus on the universe induces the Watcher to take his non-interference vow. In this scenario, Lee, recalling that a race of Watchers was mentioned in Uatu's 1st app in FF #13, 1964 and knowing that he and Larry Leiber already created a different origin for the Watchers in ToS #53, 1964 rejected Kirby's version as inconsistent with continuity, resulting in the subsequent changes.
