Mighty warrior Daillus the Daring battles and defeats a guardian ogre at the gates of a castle; he scales the walls fighting off harpies on the way; he reaches the top and spies his objective: Lorelei. The knight pledges his everlasting love and service to the magical minx and she responds—by turning him to stone. Lorelei’s sister Amora the Enchantress appears to warn her of the dangers of spurning a man’s love, mentioning that she once let Thor himself get away. Amora relates the tale for a curious Lorelei (not to mention the readers)….
It was during their adventure on Battleworld (as seen in the SECRET WARS limited series): the Enchantress had been captured and placed in a cell regenerator to heal her wounds. Thor, desiring another immortal to talk to, released her from the capsule and Amora whisked them away to a peaceful lakeside glade. Thor tried to persuade her to join the heroes but she was miffed that it was not for love of her; to get her revenge she enchanted her mouth so that one kiss would bring the Thunder God into her power. After he destroyed an interrupting lake monster she tried to seduce him with visions of eternal happiness but Thor was able to resist her charms. He flew them to a mountain top where Amora debated trying to ensnare Thor without any of her tricks and he almost kissed her—but they were interrupted by the assembled villains. Thor took them on alone, besting the baddies—until Doctor Doom had Ultron fire a disintegrator beam at the hero. Believing Thor dead, Amora went off to mourn what could have been….
In the present, the Enchantress tells her sister that she should not destroy lovers so casually and takes her leave. Lorelei ponders all this for a moment—then dismisses it with a raucous laugh….
