Thor learns from a handy television that Hogun the Grim has
been on a rampage through Manhattan and is now in the hospital; Thor heads
there. Meanwhile, Daredevil makes sure that Hogun reaches the hospital
safely and heads out in search of Thor. He and the Thunder God miss each other
by scant seconds and DD isn’t seen again in this title for years (issue #464 to
be precise)….
Seth watches as Thor arrives at the hospital and decides to
create a team to fight Thor out of those dying there. Soon, three dying
individuals are gathered in Seth’s presence: Tyle Brock, a police officer shot
by a criminal, Winston Manchester, a businessman who worked himself to death,
and Pamela Shaw, a bitter suicide. Seth tells them that their world is in
danger and he is empowering them to save it as the Earth Force: Brock becomes
the giant Earth Lord, Manchester, Skyhawk, master of flight, and Shaw,
Wind Warrior, mistress of the tempest—and their first mission is to kill Hogun the Grim.
If they are successful they will continue to live. Seth teleports them back to
the hospital where Skyhawk provokes a fight with the SWAT team stationed there;
the other two are forced to join in to try to minimize the violence. Then Thor
faces them and Wind Warrior calls up a tornado to carry the wounded cops to
safety outside. Thor engages them but pauses to create a shield around the
medical personnel who are operating on Hogun. The operation takes a bad turn
and Hogun finds himself in the presence of Seth who offers him sweet rest for
his surrender. Hogun refuses and Seth marks him with the Sign of Death and the prophecy
that the next time they meet, Hogun will die. Back at the hospital, the fight
has spilled out into the parking lot. Skyhawk, more zealous than the other two,
attacks Thor while he is trying to save an innocent patient. WW conjures up a
tornado to whisk the three of them out of there so they can plan what to do
next, since she and EL are uncomfortable with Seth’s orders to murder Hogun.
Thor reenters the building to discover that Hogun will recover—with an odd scar
on his face….
In Asgard, Balder turns down the request of Fandral and
Volstagg to go to Midgard to find Thor. Instead, Balder plans to call back the
power of Thor to defend the land even though it will leave the Thunder God
defenseless….
