Synopsis

Uncanny Avengers (2012 series) #3 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

The newly revived clone of the Red Skull stands among a crowd in New York and uses Professor Xavier’s mind powers to force them to listen to and believe his harangue. His S-Men arrive and produce the hypnotized Scarlet Witch and Rogue, who are forced to tell the crowd that the mutants intend to exterminate humanity. The Red Skull then unlocks the power in the humans to identify mutant on sight and stirs them up to madness and murder. As the enraged crowd begins hunting down and killing mutants, three Avengers arrive: Captain America has put Havok in charge and Cap and Wolverine follow his lead and rush into the melee rescuing whomever they can. Thor arrives crashing down from the sky and takes out the Tortoise Man, strongest of the bad guys but the Thunder God encounters the hypnotic Honest John…. Meanwhile, Cap is overwhelmed by doubts about Havok and hatred of mutants and he confronts Havok denouncing his foolish strategy until Havok shows him he is under the villains’ control. Wolverine is injected with Cassandra Toxin by Tsar Sultan, inducing feelings of severe guilt and paranoia. Scarlet Witch and Rogue, freed from the Red Skull's control, take out Tsar Sultan and bring Logan up to date on the situation. Meanwhile, Honest John appears to Thor as Odin, convincing the God of Thunder to join forces with the Red Skull. As Wolverine attacks the Red Skull amd slices off his hand, Goat-Faced Girl shuts off Logan’s healing factor—just as Thor crashes down on him. The God of Thunder pledges his allegiance to the Reich and the Red Skull smiles….

Uncanny Avengers (2012 series) #3 Review by (January 28, 2013)
Review: Issue-long battle is mainly full of confusion. We are given the particulars on the S-Men only as they come up in the fight, and the Red Skull captures Thor and defeats Wolverine, thus securing victory—while Cap, Havok, Wanda, and Rogue are completely igored. Look a few pages earlier; nothing has happened to them. There’s one more issue left to this arc, which suggests nothing much is going to happen except for the rest of the fight. Tune in next month to see if all the build-up comes to naught.

Comments: For the first time, the Red Skull’s henchmen are referred to as the S-Men. We see Dancing Water (liquid powers and can teleport), Tsar Sultan (insect man with poisonous sting), Dangerous Jinn (magical fire powers), Tortoise Man (tortoise man possessed by African god), and Goat-Faced Girl (can negate any mutant’s powers). Issue includes a letters column.
