Years ago: Nick Fury leads a raid on the Weapon X facility in Canada and discovers it is a lab for breeding mutations. Uncovering the truth that mutants were the creation of humans, Fury, to avoid the repercussions of that revelation, orders the lab burned to the ground and all the subjects killed. Spotting a restrained young black man, Fury asks him his name: T’Challa. Rescuing this one young man, Fury and company walk away from the burning facility….

In the Savage Land, Charles Xavier is impaled with a spear. As he lies helpless, in his mind he is contacted by Erik Lensherr—his former partner—who announces that the mutants are at war with the humans and that he had hoped Charles would come to realize that. Now Erik is disappointed with him and he had to get Charles out of the way before he could begin his grand project: the extermination of all human life….

Now at Project Pegasus, the Watchers announce they have found a herald, and all the Watchers depart from Earth. Meanwhile, in the Midwest, a teenage boy named Rick Jones is discovered by his family in the backyard, his body glowing yellow with an uncanny heat….
