During the first Gulf War, Wolverine rescued Nick Fury during battle and carried him back to safety. In the hospital, Fury is approached by General Thaddeus Ross, who reveals that he knows Fury is the same man who escaped from Project: Rebirth many decades earlier. Fury explains that he returned to the army to keep his vow to serve the country. Ross tells him about the revived Super-Soldier project and Fury’s place in it….
One year later, Fury is in charge of the project to recreate the formula that empowered Captain America; his team: Franklin Storm, Richard Parker, Bruce Banner, and cocky intern Hank Pym. They are given a vial of blood to work with but not told that it is Fury’s…. After months of work, Banner thinks he has discovered the formula. Later, while Parker is meeting with his visiting wife and their baby, Banner tests the formula on himself, as Pym watches. Banner is transformed into a massive green brute, reacting violently to the change. His rampage accidentally kills Richard and Mary Parker, and when the Hulk looks into the eyes of baby Peter, he reverts to his Bruce Banner form. Stunned by the enormity of what he has just done, Banner is easily knocked unconscious by Fury….
