U.S. Agent #5 Review by (August 3, 2021)

Review: Violent wrap-up to the miniseries but I’m not sure I understood the entire thing and it doesn’t seem worth going back and trying again. Will do so if popular demand warrants so contact this site if you really want me to figure out what’s going on here.

Comments: The American Kaiju Project was revealed in NEW AVENGERS (2015 series) #9. Issue points ahead to Walker’s next appearance in UNITED STATES OF CAPTAIN AMERICA in 2021.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

U.S. Agent #5 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

U.S. Agent John Walker battles the new U.S. Agent April Manning, also called Saint, on the crashing Helicarrier over Ephraim, West Virginia. Finally, the ship crashes to the ground and Manning emerges, dragging the defeated Walker….

The witness is asked to go back to account for the Kaiju so earlier we see that Walker and his pilot were attacked by a giant blue dragon, which Walker opined was part of the American Kaiju Project, which created the serum that gave Manning and Kate Tolifson their super-soldier abilities; Walker’s superior Valerie Cooper tells him that’s classified. Walker rides the dragon to the Helicarrier and leaps aboard, carrying the pilot….

Inside, Kate attacks Manning, warning him about taking a second dose of the serum so soon after the last one, and the need for a new U.S. Agent to replace Walker; she also wonders why a wealthy man like Manning would get involved in superheroing. [We see that Manning’s son was killed in a confrontation with police and he blamed himself.] Meanwhile, Manning’s pilot has sought out Morrie Watanabe, who is Manning’s master, at the hospital where he has taken Lamar Hoskins, and flies him out to talk sense into Manning. The Dragon crashes into the Helicarrier, allowing Manning to overpower Kate and then Walker arrives for the fight seen at the beginning of the issue. And when Manning drags Walker out of the downed carrier, he suddenly collapses….

Later, Walker talks to Val Cooper and learns that Kate is now in a psych ward, having lied about their brother committing suicide. Cooper also realizes the value of having Walker without official status. Then Morrie arrives and the two plan their next moves….
