Nisa
Contreras grew up in a New York neighborhood that was destroyed in an action by
the Avengers against Loki and rebuilding ran longer than expected. As an adult,
Nisa, now a reporter for the Daily Bugle,
discovered that Governor Hitt had diverted the rebuilding funds to his own
campaign. Now, as one of the Bugle’s
star reporters, Nisa is covering the 2016 Presidential debates where she chats
with a fellow named Lucas who has some sharply cynical comments on the
campaigning process. Then, several present reveal themselves to be Hydra
Agents, out to wreak havoc—then Lucas reveals himself to be Loki and he
conjures up magic serpents to subdue the bad guys. As he leaves, a reporter
asks Loki if he is running for President; he denounces the candidates as liars
and then promises that if he were President, he’d lie right to their faces and
they’d love it. The event turns into a lot of media attention and popularity
for Loki. J. Jonah Jameson interviews Loki on his TV show and, while
equivocating on whether he’s running, he casually explains that the current
version of him as the God of Stories was born in the United States, making him
eligible to run. Nisa Contreras calls in to question whether this is yet
another scheme by a supervillain. Loki appears in her apartment, scaring her,
and explains that he is no longer a villain and is considering running for
President. He invites her to visit his campaign office….
Nisa
arrives the next day and meets Angela of Heven, Loki’s sister and security
chief. Loki greets her as a woman and explains some of his/her policies. Nisa
writes a largely negative article, questioning Loki’s sincerity and motives.
The next morning, she discovers that the headline of her negative assessment
has been changed to sound positive and the media is presenting it as Nisa
endorsing Loki, who formally announces his candidacy. While Nisa is raging
about the deception, Thor (Jane Foster) knocks at her door, demanding to know
what Nisa is doing….
