Sadly, actor Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers / Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, will no longer reprise the role of the WWII hero and Avengers leader after the 2019 Avengers 4 movie.

In an interview with the New York Times, Chris Evans even said that he has no plans to return to the franchise (except for retakes that may happen this fall). As it is, another person will take on the role of Captain America. But not another actor playing Steve Rogers; a different character playing the Captain America role.

An article at bamsmackpow.com lists four potential characters as new wielders of the American flag shield. Strangely, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Isaiah Bradley are among those candidates. But I totally agree with their choices for other two: Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

In comics, Bucky Barnes became Cap in Captain America #34 (2008), and Sam Wilson in All-New Captain America #1 (2014).

My favourite choice as the new Cap in the MCU? Bucky.

Back to Chris Evans, the NYT interview indicates that his acting career is a bit uncertain after his Marvel tenure. He will be on Broadway this year playing a controversial police officer and then he would like to direct a movie. After that? Nothing certain.

Evans enjoyed some high-quality life during 2016 when he took a sabbatical to spend more time with family. Reflecting on those days, he states that his happiest days were not on set. He adds that he won't act in more than a movie per year.

Obviously, he's tired of the Marvel routine and he wants out, even if with time, Captain America proves to be his lifetime role. It's unfortunate, he's perfect for the role. And he could play it for many more years. If he changes his mind, I'll post an article about that. For now, the question is, who from the other top heroes will follow Evans path and quit?
