Synopsis

Black Widow (2001 series) #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Black Widow Natasha Romanoff, inhabiting the body of Black Widow Yelena Belova, arrives in Nyack-on-Hudson only to be pursued by General Stelyenko’s hit man. Nat easily bests him….

Back in New York, Daredevil finds Belova in Natasha’s body in a dumpster; she viciously tries to defend herself but when DD confirms that she really is Yelena Belova she breaks down in gratitude….

Natasha finds the hidden nukes and calls the General who arrives with several soldiers; after a scuffle she takes the General prisoner, threatening to kill him if the troops don’t back off. Daredevil has bright the real Belova to witness what happens next: at natasha’s prodding, Stelyenko calls Belova a naïve fool and he would have killed her after she recovered the nukes. This drives Balova into a rage and she attacks the general. SHIELD arrives to clean up the mess while the two Black Widows pursue Stelyenko and overpower him. Belova then attacks Natasha over her cruel scheme to interfere with her identity though Nat insists it was to save Belova: spies are no heroes, they are tools. And tools get used. Belova declines to shoot Natasha, demanding her own face back….

At SHIELD HQ, the operation is reversed and each woman is restored to her own body. Nick Fury tells Daredevil that Nat did all this to save Belova from following in her footsteps. Nat will now get a week off while Belova will return to Moscow hopefully wiser….
