Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America #214 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Surrounded by SHIELD forces, the hit man known as the Night Flyer kneels seemingly to meditate or pray. Suddenly he unleashes a powerful electrical force, knocking down everyone in the room. The blinded Steve Rogers manages to seize him by the ankle but the Night Flyer fires a shot at Steve’s face—only Steve’s super-reflexes save his life. Moving through the hospital corridors, the Night Flyer guns down security guards and makes his getaway. Back in the room, the Falcon tends to Steve’s injury but the blinded super-soldier orders his partner and the SHIELD agents to pursue the villain. The Falcon catches up with his quarry and gives battle but the Night Flyer manages to deliver a shock blast to his foe, knocking him out….

Steve dons his Captain America outfit and follows the trail, coming upon a SHIELD agent whose footsteps suggests he knows exactly where he is going. This agent is the Night Flyer’s contact and when the two villains meet up, they seal the unconscious Falcon in a steel chamber. Cap hurls his shield, knocking out the rogue agent and tries to engage the Night Flyer but he is hampered by his blindness. The assassin seizes a flame thrower and attacks Cap, while the Falcon tries to break out of the steel chamber. Outside, SHIELD troops spot the Flyer’s glider and, on the assumption that it is the villain’s power source, shoot it out of the sky. The same moment the glider explodes the Night Flyer collapses and dies, burned to a crisp by a power surge. At his point Cap realizes his eyesight has returned and, suspecting they have been manipulated by Nick Fury once again, the two heroes plan to take their girlfriends out to dinner.
