Chapter 2: Revolution

Synopsis

Civil War: House of M #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Magneto leads a mutant force against a concentration camp in California; Quicksilver removes the inhibitor collars used on the inmates, freeing them, including Blob and Unus, to join the fight against their captors. Magneto and Polaris destroy the Sentinels guarding them, at one point enclosing Blob in a force bubble and launching him through one of the giant robots. Magneto invites the freed mutants to join his army and many, including Blob, do so gladly. And then Charles Xavier arrives….

At his headquarters on Asteroid M, Magneto and Xavier watch US Vice President Bolivar Trask announce plans to strike back against the mutants. They discuss various issues such as reports that the US is creating weapons and Sentinels made out of non-metallic materials. Charles also learns that Magneto has not told his children he is their father, including Wanda, who is human. But Xavier’s biggest concern is Magneto’s methods which he finds extreme; Magneto counters by bringing in Sofia, freed from Genosha. Reading her mind, Xavier learns of the atrocities committed against mutants who are literally enslaved there. The two men agree to liberate Genosha….

The island nation of Genosha is invaded by a mutant force. The USSR, allies of Genosha, have the Soviet Super-Soldiers (Black Widow, Red Guardian, Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Ursa Major, Vanguard, Titanium Man) on hand. A huge battle ensues between the Soviets and the mutants. Xavier joins Polaris and Quicksilver in freeing mutate prisoners and Charles restores their mental faculties and they join in the fight. Crimson Dynamo catches them and collapses the building, apparently killing Charles Xavier. Enraged, Magneto confronts the nation’s leaders and rips up a mountain full of iron ore and threatens to drop it on the island unless they surrender….
