Synopsis

Hawkeye: Freefall #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Back at Hawkeye’s apartment, Clint explains to Bryce how he was able to fight himself as Ronin (issue #1): a mini time device stolen from SHIELD to send himself one hour ahead in time and snap him back. Clint now wants Bryce to repair the device which was damaged in his fight with Spider-Man (issue #2); he can’t as it too advanced a technology. A tired Linda “Night Nurse” Carter comes home and removes much of her clothing before spotting Bryce. The ensuing argument ends with Linda tossing her keys on the floor and walking out. Bryce decides to leave too….

That night, the Hood goes out hunting Ronin again for kidnapping his hacker (actually, Bryce was hired away by Clint). A building full of gangsters sees him coming and starts shooting. Miffed, Hood fires a rocket destroying the building (and everyone in it) and puts out a call for more crooks he can interrogate….

Later in Central Park, Hawkeye is beating up criminals to further support the idea that he isn’t Ronin. He runs into Black Widow who knows he is Ronin from their fighting styles. After he and Winter Soldier tried to rescue her, she teamed up with Bucky as she thought Clint was too soft. Had she known about him being Ronin, they could have worked together. But now…. She walks off and Clint is miserable….

Ronin breaks into a SHIELD facility and makes off with a long box. He has Bryce help carry it into his apartment secure that Linda won’t walk in on them because she left her keys when she walked out. He calls it the solution to all his problems: an LMD Clint. Then Linda shows up to try to patch up their relationship and the LMD lets her in. She immediately knows Clint is hiding something…but there’s no one in his bedroom. She confesses her love for him but the LMD in the closet responds and she storms out again….

That night, Ronin assaults the crooks in a Maggia safe house but he realizes that these are the Hood’s men. A search reveals that the Hood’s men have killed the Maggia men and this is not what Clint wanted. Then Daredevil arrives to find him….

Review / Commentaries

Hawkeye: Freefall #3 Review by (August 17, 2020)

Review: This issue is a little more violent that the earlier ones (though the Hood’s execution of the captive in issue #2 was a shock), especially since the whole thing holds a comical note, even the Hood alternating funny and scary.

Comments: The time-shifting device doesn’t look like Harry Potter’s time turner but we all secretly know it is. Clint and Bucky’s mission to rescue Black Widow was in TALES OF SUSPENSE #100-104.
