Like a Streak of Light

Synopsis

I Am an Avenger #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 5 stars

Spider-Man is foiling a bank robbery when he discovers the robbers are aliens with high tech weaponry. Then the building is lifted from the ground and pulled into space. Nova arrives, having been notified of the Valgon raiders by Worldmind. Worldmind updates Spidey on Nova’s recent history (see the ANNIHILATION event for more detail) and they fight the baddies together. Nova tells Spidey how Steve Rogers recruited him for the Secret Avengers and Spidey tells him about his call. They discover what the Valgons are looking for at the bank: a powerful alien weapons system mistaken for an antique vase by an art collector. They beat the baddies and Nova returns the weapon to its owners, leaving Spidey to get the bank back to Earth.

Review / Commentaries

I Am an Avenger #3 Review by (December 1, 2021)

Review: Spider-Man and Nova make for a pretty cool team and the first story takes good advantage of it, presenting a rollicking action story with the two heroes reminiscing about their call to the Avengers. It’s a neat little item that fits nicely into this book's theme. Second story: see under issue #2 for full review. The Stingray tale is a brief reminder that the ocean needs a hero too and Stingray is the man for the job, down where the only thing that matters is the food chain. If the story has a flaw it’s that Aquaman has likely addressed these issues multiple times in his career, with Stingray, who hasn’t had even a limited series, being a mere Johnny-come-lately. My advice? Avoid DC. And the Hulk vignette is cute and doesn’t need to be anything more.

Comments: First story is written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning; the title is a line from the 1960s Spider-Man animated series theme song. Fourth story: The five stages of grief come from Elizabeth Kubler-RossOn Death and Dying.
