Everything Will Change Soon (In Bed)

Synopsis

I Am an Avenger #4 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 5 stars

At the Baxter Building, while the Fantastic Four is having a dinner of Chinese take-out, Thing drops the bombshell that he has been asked to join the Avengers. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman are concerned about where that would leave the FF while Johnny Storm just makes snarky remarks. And Ben’s fortune cookie says, “Everything will change soon.” At that moment, Ben has a call from Luke Cage (with Spider-Man joking in the background) to join them fighting giant sea worms in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Johnny confides to Sue that he is hurt that he has never been asked to join the Avengers….

While Thing is battling sea monsters with his new teammates, he gets a call from Reed that the Baxter Building is under attack and hops on his sky-cycle to hurry back. When he arrives, he finds no threat. Valeria confesses that she imitated her father’s voice because she wanted to know if the Avengers and the FF needed help at the same time, which would her Uncle Ben choose? Ben tells them that the Avengers are his team but the FF is family and nothing will ever change that….

Synopsis: Using the magic sword Sverosorg, Loki has set the Avengers to fighting future versions of themselves: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Justice and Firestar. This was caused by the God of Evil to distract the heroes because when reunited with the body of its owner, the sword will endow Loki with supreme power. The two Justices team up, as do the two Firestars and head out to foil Loki’s plans. The Justices arrive at the museum Viking tomb and are caught and blasted by Loki, giving the Firestars the chance to set the tomb on fire. Loki tries to use the sword to send them back to their own times but the Firestars melt the floor and the Justices bury the sword too deep to recover. And then everything goes back to normal….

The earlier Avengers praise their Justice and Firestar for their quick thinking and the two young lovers who plan to ger engaged because their love will last forever, while their modern counterparts part awkwardly….

The scolding causes her to shrink and apologize. Then Ms. Marvel tells her that Tony’s car was insured and her anger causes her to grow so large she intimidates Tony with a dirty look.

Review / Commentaries

I Am an Avenger #4 Review by (December 7, 2021)

Review: The first story is a poignant affirmation of family in the face of insecurity over change. Just because Ben has joined another team does not mean he is leaving the family. Sweet and moving. Second story: see under issue #2 for full review. The third story is a pleasant trifle and the last a cartoonish vignette of the sort all the issues have ended with; it’s amusing.

Comments: First story features cameos by Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Iron Fist, and Mockingbird.
