Just returned from outer space, the Hulk stands on the seashore thinking about Betty Ross. Transformed back into Bruce Banner, he sets out to find her and looks for Jim Wilson‘s help. Betty is in a hospital.

A late night visitor arrives at the hospital Betty’s staying: It is the Sandman! He’s seeking for Dr. Marquand, a renowned blood transfusion specialist. The Sandman wants the doctor to do a full blood transfer on him. Such would prevent him from crystallizing into glass. He threatens to kill a nurse if the doctor doesn’t comply. They choose Betty for the blood transfer.

Jim Wilson and Bruce Banner reach the hospital, and Banner finds Betty. But when the Sandman and Dr. Marquand enter her room, Banner hides in a closet.

Sandman takes Betty with him. Bruce does not know if he should rescue her as Hulk or himself. But by the time he decides, the blood transfer is complete!

Betty feels strange and Bruce changes into the Hulk, confronting the Sandman.

After battling for some time, the Sandman realizes he cannot defeat the Hulk, and tries to leave. But Thunderbolt Ross arrives by air, and traps them in a special cage which is air lifted.

While traveling over the ocean, the pounding of the Hulk and the Sandman over the cage is such that Ross has no option but to release them to prevent the helicopter's fall from causing his demise.

The Sandman turns into a cement-like form, but the Hulk uses his arms like a propeller, creating a whirlpool that disperses him into the ocean.

Back at the hospital, Ross discovers that the blood transfusion caused his daughter Betty to turn into a glass statue!
