Story Name:

Preparations for War

Synopsis

Infinity Gauntlet #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
Earth scientists discover that Thanos’ cosmic attack has pushed Earth out of its orbit giving a greater urgency to the mission. Doctor Strange summons Earth’s leading heroes, including a reluctant Hulk, to form a team to stop Thanos. The first problem is when Doctor Doom demands to lead the force and, under the pressure of the assembled heroes, grudgingly relents. Adam Warlock and the Silver Surfer head into space to recruit an even more powerful set of allies, the great Cosmic Beings, some of whom decline to participate but most agree to cooperate (Galactus is very hard to convince to follow a mortal’s leading).

Back on Earth, Warlock secretly meets with Hulk and Wolverine and asks them, should they get the opportunity, to kill Thanos. Meanwhile Thanos, frustrated with Mistress Death’s unresponsive attitude, creates for himself a more suitable consort, Terraxia the Terrible, and waits for the confrontation he knows is coming. Warlock has briefed the assault force on the plan of attack, and aided by Dr. Strange’s protective spells, the team is transported to battle with Thanos while Warlock and the Surfer take up a position to observe.

Infinity Gauntlet #3 Review by (April 9, 2021)
Comments on tie-ins to this issue by Rob Johnson:-

The tie-ins to this issue mostly centre around Dr Strange recruiting the army for Adam Warlock.

In the middle of Sleepwalker #7 the hero is helping victims of the earthquakes Thanos caused in IG#2 when DrS contacts him to join the fight. But in his case it's to help Darkhawk, Deathlok, Her, Moon Knight and the Squadron Supreme against parts of the dead body of Eon which is swamping Manhattan. [The last part of this issue will tie in with IG#6.]

The last part of Silver Surfer #52 has Drax and Firelord being portalled in from space to join Strange's main army.

SS#53 needs to fit in here somewhere. It concerns some Kree Generals using the chaos after the disappearances in IG#1 to use an android copy of the Surfer to kill the current Kree ruler Clumsy Foulup, and then blame it on the Skrulls and stage a coup.

At the end of Hulk #383 (without the Infinity Gauntlet banner) Hulk has tracked down Abomination when 1 of Dr Strange's portals whisks him away. That doesn't really match up with this issue's depiction of the event in which Hulk refuses to step through the portal until the Avengers say that his reformed, intelligent self can rejoin their team.

SS#54 has Surfer leaving the gathering while they're arguing with Hulk. He finds that Rhino has freed all the animals in Central Park Zoo because they should experience freedom before the end of the world. However a flaw in that plan is revealed when a tiger he released is shot. Then SS returns to this issue to take Adam Warlock to the cosmic meeting.

In the 2nd half of Quasar #27 Wendell Vaughan helps with the birth of dead Eon's daughter Epoch and learns about the Eon-substance spewing through the portal from the Eonverse into his office and thence all over Manhattan. We see the heroes from Sleepwalker #7 battling the Eon-stuff, joined by Jack Of Hearts and Moondragon. Quasar closes the portal which renders the Eon-mass inert, and the heroes are left to clean it up. Then Q brings Epoch to Earth and they learn about what else has been happening.

Which means that the scenes last issue where Warlock sent Epoch and Quasar on a space mission must happen in this issue. And their destination is the meeting of the cosmic beings in this issue.

There are no tie-ins that fit between this issue and next.
