Story Name:

Dead in the Water Part IV

Synopsis

Invaders #10 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

During a lull in the War, Captain America, unwilling to return to the US for a rest with the other Invaders, accepted an invitation to visit Namor’s home, Atlantis….

Now, Cap and Winter Soldier, turned into water-breathers by Black Panther’s science, are going undercover in Atlantis to recover the Genus Compound. But Cap has another mission first: he frees the captive Hydro-Man from his cage just as an explosion rocks the city. Roxxon troops are attacking and Namor goes out to face them—but Bucky knows this is a distraction. He and Cap find a smaller Roxxon squad searching the lab for the Compound. A diver locates it and begins swimming toward the surface….

Meanwhile, Machan/Roman Peterson with the Serpent Crown is preparing his device to turn all air-breathers into water-breathers when he detects intruders. On the surface he confronts Human Torch and Toro and uses his mind-control abilities to send Toro flying straight up into space, forcing Torch to pursue him. After a few pages, the lack of oxygen extinguishes Toro’s flames and Torch is able to catch him and return him to the ground….

Cap reaches the deck of the Roxxon ship and signals for a drone to drop him his costume and shield. Cap crashes in, seizes the bag with the compound and then heads for the sea but he runs into Namor who wrongly concludes that Cap was behind the scheme to steal the Genus Compound. The two end up fighting the Roxxon mercenaries together and a stray bullet pierces the Compound’s container, spraying it on the heroes. Namor falls overboard and Cap pursues….

When Roxxon’s Simon Kaito learns of the success in stealing the Compound, he gives orders to find Cap and Namor….

When Namor awakens, Cap informs him they are stranded on an island—and the Compound has turned them both into air-breathers….

Review / Commentaries

Invaders #10 Review by (April 13, 2020)

Review: More slam-bang action starting with a water-breathing Cap and ending with an air-breathing Namor. That’s a twist for ya. Anyway, what should be an equally exciting sequence—Torch’s rescue of Toro—gets a bit lost in the underwater details but the rest of the plot makes up for it. Pretty cool.

Comments: Carlos Magno drew the modern scenes while Butch Guice did the wartime episodes.
