Synopsis

Invaders #7 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Roman Peterson goes on television and takes full responsibility for the Navy attack on Atlantis, claiming that he saw it as a patriotic act….

Captain America is in Atlantis, distributing supplies to transformed surface people. They don’t believe that the Avengers didn’t know their town would be attacked. Cap is called back to the surface where he learns that Atlantis is doing a better job of caring for the affected humans that the US government. Iron Man punches Cap in the face, blaming him for not stopping Namor; Winter Soldier tries to stop him at gunpoint and there’s a squabble. Tony jets off promising to take revenge against Namor. And Cap blames himself….

While the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations calls for a strike against Atlantis and the Atlantean delegate snaps back. Bucky is trying to track down the Atlantean moles in the Navy when he gets a message to meet with Namor….

In WW2, the Invaders (Cap, Namor, Bucky, Human Torch) investigate a German lab searching for the kidnapped Spitfire and Toro). What they find is a lab where the Red Skull is creating animal-men. As the Skull engages with Namor, the villain claims to have gotten the idea from Subby: half-man half-fish….

Namor ponders his actions while his non-existent counsellor Machan assures him everything he did was right. Roman, now a water-breather, comes to Namor, delighting in his new life; he reports on the success of the second attack on a Russian city transformed into water-breathers. Namor wants to know who gave the order; Roman says Namor did….

At Stark Industries, Tony is attaching Jim Hammond’s head to a new body when Bethany Cabe summons him to deal with an intruder. The intruder turns out to be Toro/Thomas Raymond who demands to know what happened to Jim. Jim arrives and we see he has a body resembling the Iron Man armor….

The WW2 flashback shows an enraged Namor wanting to kill the Red Skull and having to be stopped by his allies….

In Atlantis, Namor accuses Machan of deceiving him while Machan claims to be merely keeping Namor’s mind clear for important matters. Namor is then delivered the Serpent Crown and Machan tells him he is now invincible….

Invaders #7 Review by (January 21, 2020)

Review: Things get scarier as Namor is fully under the power of a warped part of his own mind, manifested as his counsellor Machan. Iron Man is mad at Captain America for miscalculating the danger Namor posed and now Cap is accusing himself. Weird stuff is happening to Human Torch and Toro is back after a long hiatus. And more humans are turned into sea people. And then the Serpent Crown shows up…. Things get off to a grim start in the second half of this story and will probably be darker before the dawn. Stay tuned. PS No idea what that second brief title is all about; it looks like a teaser for an AVENGERS issue.

Comments: Human Torch was beheaded in issue #5. The Serpent Crown, which has a mystical connection to the Egyptian god Set, first appeared in SUB-MARINER #9 (1969) and shows up periodically as it does here. Carlos Magno drew the modern scenes while Butch Guice did the wartime episodes.
