Story Name:

The Sound of Thunder!

Synopsis

Invincible Iron Man #304 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 4 stars
Thunderstrike accuses Iron Man of having destroyed Eric Masterson’s dam and attacks. The New Warriors (Night Thrasher, Speedball, Rage, Nova, Firestar) step forward and inform him that they are the responsible parties. A fight breaks out, which is quickly halted by an angry Iron Man, who orders them all off Stark property....

Later, Tony meets Steve Rogers at dinner and they talk over the disappointing younger generation and Tony mentions some plans for a team that would soon result in the formation of Force Works. Steve reminds him of his advice last issue: focus on the little victories. Tony thinks that sounds too much like faith and Steve says sometimes that's all they've got....

The next day Felix Alvarez informs Tony that the DA is dropping charges against the Controller, Abe Zimmer announces he's identified their hacker, and Bethany Cabe informs Tony that a former Stane plant in Nevada was used to manufacture gamma bombs and that environmentalists have gathered to demonstrate against the plant’s possible reopening. After ordering a piece of new equipment sent to the Nevada site, he heads out there as Iron Man. Finding security guards firing over the heads of the protesters, Iron Man discharges the guards, clears the area and prepares for his inevitable visitor. When the Incredible Hulk arrives, Iron Man is waiting for him—in his new Hulkbuster armor....

Review / Commentaries

Invincible Iron Man #304 Review by (December 18, 2018)
Comments: “Crash and Burn” part four of six. Steve Rogers does not appear in his Captain America guise. First appearance of Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor. Follow up to the Gammagate storyline in INCREDIBLE HULK #340-346.

Review: Ah, a linear plot, unlike last issue! Not sure why Thunderstrike was in the issue but, hey, it made for another offbeat guest star which seems to be the point of this story arc. Another nice conversation between Steve and Tony to relax the reader a bit. Iron Man defuses another dangerous confrontation between heroes by yelling at everyone. Iron Man intervenes in a potentially violent incident between the protesters and the soldiers, showing he still has some of his old magic under control. And then there's the promise of mayhem next issue because that's usually the result of a guest appearance by Hulk. Nice in all parts, especially the cover.
