Synopsis

Iron Man #215 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 4.5 stars
Tony Stark learns from his doctor that his nervous system is deteriorating and the condition may prove terminal. It may correct itself but only if Tony takes it easy, which he won't do. He returns to the new Stark Enterprises building (ogled by young women in another car), concerned that the nervous condition is caused by something in his new armor. He puts off thinking about it because his new space station project is nearly finished. Tony makes final arrangements with James Rhodes and Clytemnestra Erwin, unaware that A.I.M. agents are hiding within the Stark space shuttle, following a plan by Yorgon Tykkio....

On the day of the launch, Tony dresses up and heads to the office, still concerned that the US government has done nothing about A.I.M.'s control of Boca Caliente. The shuttle, piloted by Rhodey, launches successfully for the space station, and Tony dons the Iron Man armor to fly up and join him. Tony and Rhodey spot the A.I.M. interlopers on a monitor and realize they are trying to recover the files that would link the deadly satellite from issue #207 to A.I.M. Shellhead and Rhodey confront the baddies and, sensing defeat, the A.I.M guys release a deadly bioweapon that begins to spread throughout the station. While Rhodey fights the baddies with a rivet gun, Iron Man tries to halt the spread of the bacillus. The stuff is growing too quickly so Shellhead has to seal off all rooms in the station, and then rescue Rhodey who was trapped with the deadly substance. The A.I.M. villains hijack the shuttle to return to Earth and Shellhead pursues but he didn't realize the baddies would destroy themselves to prevent their capture. He is able to recover the case containing the old armor and heads back to the station, which is now contaminated beyond recovery. Rhodey puts on the armor and the two Iron Men depart for Earth. Soon it becomes apparent that the old armor has been damaged: first Rhodey has trouble breathing, then the heat of reentry becomes a problem. Tony shields Rhodey with his own armor but as the enter the atmosphere, Rhodey catches fire within the armor....

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man #215 Review by (January 23, 2017)
Comments: Part one of two parts. The all-star creative team of David Michelinie, Mark Bright, and Bob Layton return to the series with this issue. Story follows on from the events of issues #207-208. And we learn that Rhodey is a big Whitney Houston fan.

Review: Michelinie and Layton return, joining penciler Mark Bright and the old magic is back! (Not that Denny O'Neil's run was disappointing—far from it—but Michelinie was legendary.) These first two issues will be dedicated to wrapping up O'Neil's dangling plot threads so they can move on to their own stuff. For now this is a thrilling issue, full of action—and hints of more trouble to come for Tony. Not to mention Rhodey, with that shocking final panel! To quote Curly Howard, “I can hardly wait!”
