Winter Soldier makes it out of the building ahead of the explosion, pulling Hawkeye along with him. The two men, Hawkeye believing Black Widow is still alive, Winter Soldier believing she's dead but someone is trying to make it look as though she were alive, decide to team up, despite the incompatibility of their personalities....

In Manhattan they meet with ex-SHIELD Agent Sally Blevins, the former Skids of the New Mutants, to learn if she has any leads on who is killing former Hydra operatives. She slips them a paper with a name on it and drives away. Minutes later her car explodes, crashing into the river. Later, they watch the attempts to recover Sally's body. Clint believes Sally was killed by Natasha; Bucky doesn't agree. Clint spots a familiar figure in the crowd and they give chase, the mystery woman leaping a fence and scaling the bridge. She races across traffic, shooting out a car's tires to delay her pursuers and gets away....

That night Clint and Bucky visit the house of the man whose name Sally gave them. As they watch from a distance, the figure who seems to be Natasha takes down the rooftop guards and enters the house. They also enter, trying to protect the occupant, and they catch the Black Widow who, without her red wig, is revealed to be Yelena Belova, the second Black Widow, terrified that the Winter Soldier is there to kill her....
