Synopsis

Thor #35 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 0 stars

Thor has taken Laussa and the child Hela to an incident in the ancient past. Young Thor and Loki were traveling through Jotunheim and sought shelter at the house of King Bergelmir. Bergelmir saw their horse Sleipnir and wanted it so he wagered his magic knife for the magic horse. Loki proposed a battle of strength: the giant king would choose an opponent for Thor and Loki would designate an opponent for Bergelmir. Thor faced the eagle Hraesvelgr and soon defeated it. Loki produced a spider Moira to battle Bergelmir; the giant king laughed but it turned out that the spider was Fate and it entangled Bergelmir in its web….

In Latveria, Runa and the Disir find the adult Hela who goes off to fight Doctor Doom while Runa chooses to battle the dragon Nidhogg….

In the After, Valkyrie (Jane Foster), speaks with Odin and Bor. Odin bemoans how he never told his children he was proud of them….

In the past, Bergelmir realized he had been tricked and so Thor was forced to fight him while Loki vanished, taking the magic knife with him. Thor realized that he now understands how Loki disappeared: future Thor helped him. Thor introduces Loki to his daughter, Hela, Goddess of Death….

Hela confronts Doctor Doom, warns him never to come near Hel again and, because he saved her life once, she allows him to go free….

Mister Horse finds Jane and reminds her of what she needs to do. So, Jane sends the dead back to Hel, with Odin offering to lead them….

In the past, Thor persuades Loki to take young Hela with him to seep her from Bor. Thor sends Laussa back to her time, not wanting to know what the future holds….

Thor returns to the present where he sees Runa and the Disir defeat Nidhogg. He locates Jane who passes along a message from Odin. When they were boys, Odin told them a lengthy fairy tale that Thor and Loki would always prolong with their questions and Odin played along. Now, Odin has provided an end to that story, indicating he is in Valhalla and truly gone….

Thor #35 Review by (June 28, 2023)

Review: And so the story arc ends, along with the series. I admit I could not always follow what was going on though reading the summary at the beginning of the following issue made clear what the writer didn’t. Things wrap up, in a less than spectacular fashion, so I still not sure what it was all about but I found the departure of Odin strangely heart-warming for a character who has not been treated well over the past couple of decades. And Thanos, who was a big deal in the previous issues, is now absent without a mention. Next up, Al Ewing works his magic in THE IMMORTAL THOR which I hope does not make the God of Thunder as scary as he made Hulk.

Comments: Final issue of the series. Juan Gedeon is credited as co-penciller and co-inker.
