Synopsis

Thor #256 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The Starjammer continues on its quest for Odin when they see a figure shooting toward them. It is the Recorder, a robot from Rigel, sent by the Rigelians as show of appreciation to Thor for saving their world (#220); it hasn’t heard of the Doomsday Star, their mystery destination. They then cross paths with a massive derelict world-ship and board it to investigate….

After walking through the ship for a while, Volstagg pushes a random button and robot guards are activated; there is a battle, interrupted by the arrival of the human leader of the ship, Relstor. Suddenly Sif, wounded in the melee, faints. She is rushed to the infirmary….

Back in Asgard, Balder is taking very seriously his mission to guard the Throne of Odin, to the annoyance of Karnilla the Norn Queen. A mortally injured soldier rushes in with tidings of an invading army at the gates; he whispers the names of the leaders to Balder and dies….

The inhabitants of the world-ship, named Levianon, are living in squalor; Relstor tells the heroes of a tentacled monster called Sporr living in the ship which periodically attacks and carries off the aged and infirm. A delirious Sif wanders from the infirmary and is seized by a huge tentacle. Thor and the Warriors Three hasten to the rescue but the monster pulls down the ceiling to create a barrier. Thor vows to bring Sif back safely….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #256 Review by (October 30, 2014)
Review: Fairly cool epic sci-fi action story boasts a gratuitous fight with robots plus a necessary battle against giant tentacles; both are fun as is the plot which also resembles a few stories from the old DOCTOR WHO series (starting with GALAXY FOUR in the third season). Nice show of teeth in the final panel.

Comments: Part one of two parts. Part two of “The Quest for Odin.” The main monster (and the title) betrays a bit of H.P. Lovecraft’s influence.
