Thor returns to Asgard with the bad news that the Ruby Eye has been destroyed (#253). He and the others go before the all-wise Mimir and Thor confesses his failure; Mimir instead reveals that it was a test of his worthiness and he has passed. The oracle then tells them that Odin can be found in the Doomsday Star. Sif and the Warriors Three volunteer to join him on his quest; Balder does also but the Thunder God has him guard the throne of Odin while they are gone. They board the Starjammer and depart into space….
After some time the ship encounters a meteor shower; Thor sends out Mjolnir to guide them through (mostly) safely. They land on an asteroid to make repairs and there find a spaceship and several statues—but they are not what they seem. The statues are the Stone Men from Saturn, in suspended animation, stranded there as they left Earth after their defeat by Thor. They announce their intention to seize the Starjammer but Thor and his heroes have something to say about that. The Stone Men are beaten down until one rips the Gravitron from their ship and fires it at the Asgardians who immediately become too heavy to move. By sheer strength of will, Thor rises and smashes the enemy device. The Saturnian ship explodes and Thor stays behind to hold off the Stone Men while the others take the ship into space. The asteroid is destroyed just as Thor makes it to the Starjammer.
