Synopsis

Thor #260 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Aboard the Bird of Prey, rechristened the Phoenix of Freedom by the liberated slaves, the Recorder links to the ship’s computers to download all the knowledge stored there. Something goes wrong, and Recorder overloads and burns out, though he will recover….

In Asgard, Balder adopts a disguise, against the advice of Karnilla, to leave the city and go among the enemy camped outside the gates. The eerie silence in the enemy camp leads the brave warrior to think he has been discovered; whipping out his sword, he fights…and learns his foes are but empty suits of armor. Realizing the deception, he heads back to the city only to be felled by a bolt of magic from the Enchantress. Balder takes up arms against the Executioner but Amora empowers her ally who defeats Balder and moves in for the kill….

Moving the heavy weaponry from the Phoenix to the Starjammer, Thor and his comrades head for the Doomsday Star. They encounter a galactic graveyard—giant stone figures memorializing dead gods—but all are not dead, as the ship is attacked….

Karnilla arrives to take on the Enchantress, freeing Balder to resume battling the Executioner. The heroes are victorious but suddenly Thor appears before them, angry at their deeds….

The Starjammer is under attack by a giant sentry; they respond by freezing it with one of the salvaged weapons and the God of Thunder smashes it to icy shards with a blow from Mjolnir. They arrive to find the Doomsday Star is a massive artificial world, surrounded by impenetrable barriers….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #260 Review by (January 20, 2015)
Comments: Part one of four parts. Part six of “The Quest for Odin.” Phony Thor is revealed to be Kroda the Duelist in disguise in issue #264.

Review: More thrilling space opera blended with an Asgard-bound brawl. And here we get a taste of things to come, with Walt Simonson’s first art on the title, recalling some of Jack Kirby’s mind-boggling outer space adventures. .
