Thor #341 Review by (September 2, 2013)
Review: Epic battle is broken up by a few too many subplots for my taste but it’s a Marvel tradition. Otherwise a terrific issue, with gag appearances by “Clark” and “Lois.”

Comments: Thor adopts the human identity of Sigurd Jarlson with this issue. Yes, that is supposed to be Clark (Superman) Kent and Lois Lane in that glasses gag. First (very brief) appearance of Malekith. SECRET WARS is represented by three blank panels to avoid spoilers; the missing panels were supplied in the following issue's letters column to be pasted in here.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Thor #341 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Thor returns to Manhattan where he is immediately caught up in the events of SECRET WARS—but that’s (literally) another story. With Don Blake no longer a reality as of last issue, Thor contacts Nick Fury about creating a new secret identity for him; they make him Sigurd Jarlson, a burly and bespectacled Norwegian….

Subplots, grouped in one place: Lorelei awakens the sleeping dragon Fafnir to do her bidding but the monster hypnotizes her instead. Odin sends out his ravens to locate the origin of the demons fought by Thor and Beta Ray Bill in the previous issues. Surtur summons the Dark Elf Malekith to do his bidding. The guilt-ridden Balder exiles himself to the wilderness where he is found by Karnilla the Norn Queen. Back to our main story….

Thor, in his new identity, applies for a job at a construction site. A woman (a comatose Loreli) is discovered hanging from a crane; Thor rushes to the rescue only to be attacked by Fafnir. After a brief but violent battle, Thor unleashes the power of Mjolnir and the dragon panics and tunnels underground, crashing through into the river. Thor must allow the villain to escape and save the city by damming the flood. Meawnhile, Loki watches from his lofty tower as Loreli expresses her gratitude to Sigurd, her hero….
