Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor head out in a small
plane heading for Boragora for their honeymoon. Madelyne asks Scott if he’s
made a decision yet about heading out with the Starjammers and he admits he
still hasn’t. Suddenly the plane is overcome by a vicious storm and is struck
by lightning, causing it to plummet into the ocean below. Meanwhile, in Japan,
Wolverine once again drops in on Mariko Yashida in the middle of the night. He
presents the honor sword he’d previously returned, which he says was delivered
to him two days previous in New York. Mariko says he is worthy of it but that
she still can’t marry him. Logan is frustrated, pointing out that Mastermind
has been stopped, and all of the damage he’d done reversed. Mariko, however,
feels shame in the things she did while under his influence, and feels that she
must sever the ties between her family and the Japanese underworld, alone.
Wolverine respects her decision and takes the sword back, hoping that things
will be better for them in the future.
In the middle of the Pacific, Scott and Madelyne
attempt repairs for their small plane, now touched down in the water. While
leaning in for a kiss, Scott slips a bit, narrowly avoiding a shark, which he
then blasts away. In the water, the shark drifts off from the blast before
being ominously grabbed something even larger! Elsewhere, in Washington D.C.,
Henry Peter Gyrich arrives for an important, impromptu meeting of various
government security departments. Magneto’s actions from UXM #150 are discussed,
and how little chance humans would have if such things ever happened again. Dr.
Valerie Cooper then presents mutants as being the main issue. She states that
mutants, which had generally been confined to the U.S. until now, have started
popping up all over the globe. She proposes a government funded team of mutants
to combat possible foreign mutant threats. Gyrich feels that would only prove
Magneto’s point, and suggests they let things be for the time being.
Meanwhile, Scott and Madelyne continue to have little
luck in getting their plane back in the air. Elsewhere, in the underground base
of the Morlocks beneath New York, Callisto and a couple of the other
high-ranking Morlocks stop in on Caliban in his private quarters. They find his
picture of Kitty Pryde and Callisto promises Caliban that she will get Kitty to
honor the promise she made to stay with Caliban forever! Back with Scott and
Madelyne, they continue their repairs, when Madelyne is pulled into the ocean
by a giant tentacle! Scott dives in after her, only to get grabbed as well,
finding both of them in the clutches of a giant squid! Through some struggle,
Scott is able to blast the squid away and he and Madelyne wearily make it back
to their plane. They continue trying the engines until they finally achieve
liftoff, finally able to fly out of the path of the storm. As they make their
way to their honeymoon destination, though a bit worse for wear, Scott is
happy. He’s decided to stay on Earth, in order to start his life with Madelyne,
to have the family he always wanted before joining the X-Men. Scott and
Madelyne rest contently in each other, their new life only just beginning!
