United States of Captain America #4 Review by (September 22, 2021)

Review: A little less emphasis on the political implications of Captain America, and more on action with the introduction of Warrior Woman coming as a surprise as we assumed Sin was the head honcha of the bad guys. A pretty cool issue, upping the stakes by bringing in Hate Monger, evolved from a Hitler clone to an evil force. I would question Cap’s decision to bring in Aaron and Arielle to join the fight; they are two kids and the bad guys are quite formidable so it seems like a total accident that they aren’t killed. And they are joined by Captain Jeremy Merrick whose fitness for the mission lies in his name—or haven’t you noticed what “Captain Merrick” sounds like out loud? The second story is rather cool with someone seeing injustice and trying to do something about it. And next month wraps it up.

Comments: Cam Smith, Scott Hanna did the inking for the first story. Issue includes a one-page profile of the Campus Captain America (Arielle Agbayani).

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

United States of Captain America #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

At the Annual Kickapoo Powwow, Captain America (Steve Rogers) ponders his fitness to be the symbol of a nation of colonizers. Captain America (Sam Wilson) and Winter Soldier assure him that he is the ideal….

At Sam’s cabin in Colorado, Steve, Sam, and Bucky try to get a line on Sin’s next move. Two of the local Captains arrive to give aid: Aaron Fischer (from issue #1) and Arielle Agbayani (introduced in the second story in this issue). Steve Cap and Bucky head out to an appointment….

Warrior Woman, going by the name Commander Krieger, leading Sin and Speed Demon, invades NORAD and takes down the guards. A lone defender, Captain Jeremy Merrick, manages to get a call for help out and it is picked up by Sam Cap….

Steve Cap and Bucky arrive at a bar where they find John Walker, the U.S. Agent, drunk. Steve tells Walker they need him just as Sam arrives with news of the attack on NORAD. The assembled Captains, including Aaron and Arielle, head to NORAD; as they ride, Steve Cap reveals that Hate Monger is imprisoned at the mountain base…

…where Warrior Woman informs the vicious beast of her plan to conquer America by turning the nation against itself. The heroes arrive and there is a big battle with Captain Merrick joining in. Speed Demon is thunked on the head, snapping him out of the hypnotic spell he was under; coming to his senses he attacks WW but she takes him down quickly. The villainess releases Hate Monger and they flee. U.S. Agent tells Cap they needn’t pursue as they have Sin and Speed Demon to question, with Walker volunteering to do the job…..

“The Halloween Party”
Writer: Alyssa Wong. Art: Jodi Nishijima. Colors: Matt Milla.
Synopsis: At Hargrove University on Halloween night, Arielle Agbayani has a plan to deal with her friend Maribeth’s problem—she was assaulted by Elliot Carmichael, a rich kid whose family makes sure he never has to pay for his misdeeds. Arielle dons a Captain America-inspired costume and heads to the party at Elliot’s frat house. She sneaks into his room where she recovers Maribeth’s stolen phone and spots Elliot’s as well. Elliot catches her and attacks her with a lacrosse stick; she knees him in the groin and flees. He calls to his friends to stop the girl dressed like Captain America and then discovers that all of Maribeth’s friend are wearing Cap-related costumes. Arielle reports to Maribeth that she was successful and plans to post the incriminating evidence from the phones on the news. The friends celebrate.
