Synopsis

Black Widow (2020 series) #12 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Black Widow is asleep and dreaming of her son Stevie when Winter Soldier tries to wake her and she reflexively throws him to the floor before she recognizes him. He wants to talk, warning her against trying to see her hidden husband and child; she only wants reassurance that Stevie remembers her and Bucky tells her he does. Nat and Bucky meet with the other members of the team: White Widow, Spider-Girl, Lucy Nguyen, and Hawkeye. They are going to crash the Golden Gate Gala openly….

At the Gala, they arrive in eye-catching costumes and take up positions as Natasha and Clint dance in the center of the ballroom. Bucky cuts in while Clint plays his role as the easiest guy in the room to recognize. The androgynous host cuts in and dances with Natasha, appreciating the presence of superheroes….

Anya and Lucy crawl through the vents and discover a group of rich people bidding on rare and exotic animals—and then there’s a screech over the heroes’ comm-links. Nat and Yelena head downstairs to investigate and encounter a gang of thugs in animal masks. The Widows beat them all up but then the legendary Living Blade walks in…and he and Nat recognize each other from that time in Madripoor….

Review / Commentaries

Black Widow (2020 series) #12 Review by (February 2, 2022)

Review: More buildup than payoff, promising more down the road. In the meantime, we have some awkward reconnaissance among the heroes, a suspicious auction, and the introduction of a new and formidable-sounding villain. This one looks to be as cool as this series has been so far.

Comments: First appearance of the Living Blade. Issue includes items from Elena Casagrande’s sketchbook.
