Synopsis

Black Widow (2020 series) #13 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Some time ago on a rooftop in Madripoor: Black Widow is in a katana duel with the Living Blade. They clash—and then she discovers she has been slashed across the left hip. She leaps down to another rooftop but when she looks back, he is behind her and slashes her back. She stings him and he stabs her in the shoulder with a knife. She uses the knife and her Widow’s Sting against his katana while wondering why he is after her on a simple reconnaissance mission. She cuts down some power lines and flees while he ducks. She swings away, he slashes her line and she falls though the skylight of a nightclub. They fight, she is wounded again. She runs, he pursues. She dashes into the men’s room and beats him up in the crowded quarters. She leaps through a ceiling vent, startling a guy who is sitting in a stall. She drops into another room and encounters a pair of rich guys and a bunch of women being trafficked. The men recognize her and run. Living Blade arrives but by now, Nat has another katana and tells him he will have neither the women nor her. Living Blade stands still then tells her “Until next time, Widow” and walks off. Nat realizes she is now marked and has only bought herself time….

Review / Commentaries

Black Widow (2020 series) #13 Review by (April 19, 2022)

Review: An issue-long flashback to establish the past conflicts between the heroine and a new “old” villain? Works very well with a guest artist to give it a different flavor. And colored with faux Ben-Day dots for a nice touch. Putting Nat in her short-hair/gray outfit is just the icing on the cake.

Comments: First full appearance of the Living Blade.
