Captain America (2025 series) #7

Captain America and his reconstituted SHIELD team (Red Widow, Trevor Tambling, Joe Ramos, Charles Castlemore) arrive in Latveria to carry out their mission of searching for Doctor Doom’s weapons. They are stopped by Red Hulk, who insists that the US Army could do a better job and orders Cap out of the country. Castlemore unwisely attacks Rulk and Rulk retaliates with a blow to Cap’s shield and then they are halted by Nick Fury Jr. Fury points out that the Army is there for observation only and if Ross starts anything, he will answer to his own superiors. But Rulk warns Cap that if anything goes wrong, he will destroy SHIELD….

On the way to Doomstadt, the team drives through a village where Alina of the Homeland Party is preaching a message of peace while denouncing Salvation and his fascist True Latveria Party. They hear gunshots a few streets away and find a battle between Salvation’s people and the Latveria Liberators. The SHIELD team intervenes, with Cap calling for no casualties. A gunman opens fire on Cap and an old man but Salvation himself comes to the rescue, shooting down the gunman. The party leader tells Cap that his group was being attacked by the Liberators and he unmasks to show Cap he is Marius Wolf, Cap’s ally against Doom many years ago. He takes them back to the castle but mentions that the catacombs were ransacked some time ago and very little is left. Wolf explains that he intends to install a democracy in Latveria once the terroristic Liberators are defeated. But he also warns Cap not to impose American ways on his country. Castlemore takes Cap aside to tell him that Salvation sounds like a tyrant and maybe they should get rid of him; Cap reacts strongly, noting that their mission is to protect citizens while they search for weapons. Cap takes a call from Fury who reports a possible weapons cache at a farm in the North End….

Cap sends the team to investigate the farm while he dons civilian clothes and hangs out in a village. He meets a woman named Mirel and her young son; she invites him to dinner where they talk politics. Mirel doesn’t trust Salvation and would prefer to have Doom back. He was a monster but they were safe. The Latveria Liberators claim to be for the people but they are too fond of violence. And Alina of the Homeland Party will be assassinated by summer. And then the boy warns them that someone is hiding in their backyard. Steve tells them to hide while he checks it out. In his Cap suit he scuffles with a couple of men but the reason they are there is Alina, come to meet Cap. And then she reveals her full name: Alina von Doom….
