Synopsis

Doc Savage The Man of Bronze (1972 series) #7 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
On a moonlit night in the Canadian wilderness, a man transforms into a werewolf and intercepts and kills Alex Savage. Alex’s daughter Pat contacts her cousin Doc in New York, asking for his help. On the train, Doc and his men meet Sr. Oveja and his daughter and their companion El Rabanos who convinces the Ovejas that Doc Savage is their enemy. Several incidents take place to dissuade Doc from his mission: a faked telegram from Pat, a poison gas attack, the sabotage of the train tracks, with the only clue being a brand resembling a werewolf’s head at the scene of the crime. Doc pursues the fleeing Oveja party and fights off a gang of hired thugs. Back at Pat’s house she finds her Native American servants Tiny and Boatface unconscious from a gas attack and ascertains that the object of the villains’ scheme—an ivory cube embossed with the brand of the werewolf—is safe. It turns out, however, that Boatface was faking and he steals the cube from its hiding place and goes to meet with the werewolf, who kills the luckess native but finds to his chagrin that Boatface had hidden the cube before the meeting. Doc and his men follow the Ovejas by plane to Pat’s home where signs of a struggle, and Boatface’s corpse, send Doc on the trail of the villains. As he crosses a deep waterfall by walking the cable car’s tightrope, a sniper fires, and Doc plunges into the falls….

Review / Commentaries

Doc Savage The Man of Bronze (1972 series) #7 Review by (February 15, 2010)
Additional credits: plotted by Gardner F. Fox and Tony Isabella. a) Part one of an adaptation of the novel “Brand of the Werewolf” by “Kenneth Robeson” (Lester Dent); b) Pat is now correctly colored, though the story is no longer her introduction in view of issues 3 and 4; c) Johnny and Long Tom are said to be working on a government project; d) Doc’s skimpy vest is now made of fur, though it doesn’t look like it affords much better protection than the usual one, considering how much skin is still uncovered; e) Doc’s eyes are left uncolored, for an odd effect; f) missing in action: Pat’s six-shooter; g) Doc Factor: first mention of Habeas Corpus, though he does not appear; h) issue also includes a letters page, “What’s Up, Doc?”
