The Fear continues in New York
City….
The Fear has taken Spider-Man;
engulfed by a swarm of hungry rats, he can only think of all his loved ones
dead because he failed them. He forces himself back to the present and fights
off the rats—and he is then attacked by Vermin. Spidey remembers how his foe is
really an abused victim who needs help—but he knows this will not help him now
and fights for his life. The jumper hits Vermin on the head with a golf club,
giving Spidey the chance to overcome his enemy. After delivering Vermin to the
Baxter Building, Spidey heads to a secret stash and dons a new costume with a
full supply of web-fluid. He ponders the situation and I again driven t despair
at the enormity of the task….
Mayor J. Jonah Jameson tries to
get Steve Rogers on the phone, demanding the Avengers do something about his
city. A messenger comes with the welcome news that John Jameson, JJJ’s
astronaut son, is safe aboard the space station. Spidey drops by to ask how
things are going. JJJ responds that, like his son, while he is alive he will
not stop fighting. So he tells Spidey to quit whining and get out there….
And so Spidey continues his
efforts to save lives, having been on the go for two days now. Norah Winters
enters a church to find people praying for deliverance. A man named John Russel
comes in with a gun, muttering, “I killed him.” Spidey crashes through a (stained-glass)
window to try to talk him down. Spidey says that the man he shot is not dead;
the priest tells Russel he is not alone, they are all scared. Spidey and Norah
fear Russel is going to snap—but he drops to his knees and begs forgiveness. As
Spidey and Norah leave, they find a pregnant woman on the steps calling for
help….
And then a magic hammer falls from
the sky and Ben “the Thing” Grimm touches it and is possessed by Angrir, Breaker of Souls….
