Invincible Iron Man #290 Review by (September 4, 2018)
Comments: “30th Anniversary Issue!”--Cover. First story part one of two parts.

Review: The first tale has a lot of technical detail and introspection by Tony Stark which makes for some interesting reading; the creation of the new armor is also a creative and absorbing sequence. But it's the battle that looks coolest—and also continues into the next issue. The second “story” really is a detailed description of the new Iron Man armor in technical terms. It makes for dry reading but then my interest in it is that co-author/letterer Scott Benson is an old friend of mine whom I haven't seen in years. If you're reading this, Scott, get in touch via this site!

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #290 Synopsis by T Vernon
Tony Stark, lying in his hospital bed, runs through his paces, rewriting his own operating system but Dr Erica Sondheim can not promise him that he will recover mobility. That night, brooding on his wonderful improvements but also his stubborn limitations, he tries to call James Rhodes to apologize for keeping him in the dark about but Rhodey doesn't want to hear it. Tony then calls Abe Zimmer who arrives the next day and presents Tony with a neural interface to access and operate the company's automated systems—but which also might put a strain on Tony's neural access point, with disastrous results. And so Tony, from the comfort of his bed, builds himself a new Iron Man armor....

Osamu Moroboshi addresses his board, explaining that Morgan Stark cannot be trusted to get Rhodey out of the way as Stark CEO, and so they will take direct action: their patron has supplied them with “specialized” agents....

The next day, Stark Enterprises is attacked by a team of battledroids with a tank and an aircraft for support. Tony sees this on his bedside monitor and dispatches his new Iron Man armor via remote control to stop them. Iron Man is blasted down but not out; the 'droids think he's dead but Tony manages to reroute the systems and pursues the enemy. Deploying his big guns, he shoots down the 'droids, grabs the aircraft and hurls it into the tank, then is surprised that the tank comes back for more....

Meanwhile, a second team of battledroids arrives at Rhodey's home where he sees them coming....
