At Shadow Base, the captive Hulk has
been dissected to the glee of head scientist Dr Clive. The monster's
heart has been bisected with an adamantium scalpel wielded by a
hydraulic arm yet when the halves are brought into proximity with the
rest of Hulk, both start beating again. Clive mocks Hulk who responds
with the middle finger from a disembodied hand. Clive is really
enjoying all of this, finding out how Hulk works....
Aboard the Alpha Flight space station,
Captain Marvel is giving an interview to reporter Jackie McGee,
providing an anonymous quote questioning the government's secretive
handling of the Hulk problem and designed to make Banner's captors
uneasy. Carol names Walter Langkowski (formerly Sasquatch as of issue
#5) head of the new Gamma Flight, tasked with locating Hulk....
Learning of this new task force,
General Fortean calls Dr Clive and puts the pressure on, demanding
the secret base be moved. Clive goes back to Hulk who, oddly, is
smiling at him; Clive loses his cool until he realizes Hulk has been
playing him: everything they learn about Hulk, Hulk learns too. The
Green Giant smashes out of all of his glass jars at once, and the
pieces begin to draw together and reassemble themselves—trapping
Clive on the inside. Hulk notes that when Bruce Banner is harmed, he
takes it personally. Clive's aide returns to find Hulk and the doctor
missing, with a giant hole torn in the floor....
Unable to track the Hulk (because he's
underground), Langkowski asks for Jackie's help in finding the
fugitive monster...
...who surfaces in New Mexico at dawn,
transforming back into Bruce Banner, who knows Hulk has taken a
life...and he hears his father laughing....
