Review: As with the long buildup to this series, the issues are now filled with Nick Spencer pulling together plot threads and setting up a big denouement. The issue is good but offers little payoff; we'll need to get to the end for it all to make sense. That said, there are a number of great moments, including Black Widow's New Red Room training session for the teen heroes who are ninja wannabes.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Secret Empire #3 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The mysterious second Steve Rogers has rescued a woman from attack by three villains (last issue); she is seriously injured but does not want help. Instead she asks Steve how he got there; Steve is unsure but feels there is someplace that needs him....

Star-Lord (with Rocket and Groot) is trying to persuade some aliens to come to the aid of the Earth heroes stranded in space; instead they shoot at him and he reports his failure to Captain Marvel. The situation outside the shield is critical and the only person powerful enough to save the day, Quasar, is in a coma....

Boomerang, a mobster in Newark, New Jersey, sets up a meeting between Black Widow and Maria Hill. After some verbal sparring, Hill hands over a copy of Captain America's social calendar, listing opportunities for an assassination attempt. Back at her base she is trying to train the young heroes in her Red Room to be able to make impossible choices in a split second....

In Montana, Sam Wilson refuses to help Ant-Man and his team to escape over the Canadian border; they finally convince him that finding the last fragments of the Cosmic Cube is the only way to save Steve Cap and return the world to what it was....

In Washington, Cap is attending a Hydra Science Fair, still trying to persuade Sharon Carter to join Hydra when he is called away. A team led by Baron Zemo is in an Atlantean temple, searching for one of the fragments of the Cosmic Cube. Finding one they realize it is a fake planted by Namor as a decoy. Cap orders the temple blown up as a warning to his former ally....

In a mysterious location, a curiously disfigured Hank Pym awaits the arrival of his “family”....

Steve Rogers puts the injured woman down beside a stream and with her dying breath she assures Steve that he will make it home....

In Newark, a bomb explodes in Boomerang's apartment and he has an unwelcome visitor wanting to know what passed between Maria Hill and Black Widow—the Hydra Punisher....
