Synopsis

Thor (2009 series) #613 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Prologue: In the days before the Siege of Asgard, Loki entered Hell to employ Mephisto’s forge to create the magic sword Eir-Gram….

Present: Thor fights his way through the demons of Hell to gain the throne room of Mephisto where the Eir-Gram, the only weapon which can slay the vicious Disir, is held. A denizen of the pit draws his attention to his mother Gaia, in eternal torment as part of the floor of Hell. But Thor realizes that Gaia is the Earth itself and as Hell is part of the world it is by nature a part of Gaia too, thus she is in no dire calamity. He moves on….

Back in Asgard, the Lady Kelda sits by the entrance to Valhalla, gazing on her dead love Bill, and secretly blaming Balder for the turn of events which led to her lover’s death….

At Citadel Hela, Tyr leads the army of the dead animated by Hela’s spirit against the Disir who have merged into a single giant monster. As they split apart to engage him in the room where Hela lies in a trance, Tyr removes his gauntlet and unleashes his greatest weapon, the soul of the God of War, manifested as a living liquid flame emerging from his arm. He fights with a fury….

Thor finally reaches Mephisto’s throne room and the demon lord shows him to the Eir-Gram, embedded in the ground. Thor is unable to remove it as the Disir’s curse prevents anyone but the one to whom it belongs from drawing it. Told that the Citadel has fallen, Thor makes a desperate gamble—and shouts the name of the Disir, summoning them to his presence….

Review / Commentaries

Thor (2009 series) #613 Review by (November 20, 2012)
Review: More horror but at least there’s an end in sight. Maybe the next story arc will not involve vivisection or cannibalistic corpses.

Comments: Loki is seen only in flashback.
