Thor is flying over New York when he spies a police barricade; heading down, he learns that a band of terrorists are holed up in a Roxxon building threatening to blow up the nuclear reactor and destroy the city. Thor crashes through the roof and takes out the baddies. Just then the reactor begins to glow and it vanishes in a flash of light, taking the Thunder God with it….
In the 31st century, Korvac discovers that his use of a time probe has picked up a passenger with the reactor he was stealing. Identifying Thor he ejects the Thunder God out into the depths of space where he falls unconscious….
The Guardians of the Galaxy, the band of heroes where each is the sole survivor of his race, are traveling though space when their ship, the Freedom’s Lady, is hit by a mysterious power beam. The heroes work together to save their ship and Starhawk (who travels outside) tells them of the deadly beam. Tracing it to its source, the Guardians come too close to Korvac’s planetoid and he sends a meteor shower to drive them off-course. Many kilometers away, they discover the frozen Thor and take him aboard….
Meanwhile, Korvac summarizes his origin for his quarreling minions (and the readers) before outlining his latest scheme: employing his power-siphon to cause Earth’s sun to go nova, then drawing the energy back to enable Korvac to conquer the universe. Meanwhile, aboard the Freedom’s Lady, introductions are made and Thor recognizes them from Captain America’s précis of his adventure with the Thing in MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE #5. They once more track the beam to its source and teleport down to the planetoid; there most of the Guardians battle Korvac’s minions while Thor and Starhawk seek out their master. The two heroes soon find Korvac in his lab but he teleports them outside again several times until Thor hurls Mjolnir and wrecks his teleport machine. Korvac unleashes a neural beam which forces Thor and Starhawk to fight one another. Outside, the Guardians switch opponents which allow them to defeat the minions. Inside the force of the battle between Thor and Starkhawk causes the building to collapse around them; the villain teleports to safety and the spell is lifted. Starhawk uses the time probe to return Thor to 20th century Earth.
