Synopsis

Thor #242 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thor, Jane Foster, and Odin emerge from the Pyramid which mysteriously appeared in California. Thor hurls his hammer creating a vortex that sends the pyramid back where it came from. When Odin realizes that his son is still keeping company with Jane, he forbids him to return to Asgard, without listening to Thor’s explanation that Sif’s life force is in Jane, making her technically a goddess. Odin bids a sad farewell t his companion Judith and departs….

Thor and Jane return to New York to find Don Blake’s apartment occupied by the Warriors Three. As they relax a huge armored hand breaks through the wall and seizes Jane. The heroes rush outside to find a giant robot called the Servitor. The interloper reveals that it has been sent to secure a promise from the Thunder God to serve its master. The heroes battle the monster with only the Servitor’s orders to capture Thor alive minimizing the damage. Thor finally manages to rip the street out from under it, toppling it and seizing the Servitor’s Power-Lance weakens it. Thor prepare to smash the enemy machine to bits but his hand is stayed by the sudden appearance of the Servitor’s master—Zarrko the Tomorrow Man. Zarrko reveals that he did not send his servant to fight Thor but to enlist his aid in a mission to save Earth from destruction….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #242 Review by (July 30, 2014)
Review: Pretty nice battle scene is the highlight of the issue, though “Odin is an arrogant jerk” gets a bit tiresome after all these years. Never mind, the fight is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while reading this series.

Comments: Part one of four parts. Zarrko was introduced in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #86; his last appearance was in MARVEL TEAM-UP #9-11 where he battled Spider-Man, Iron Man, Human Torch, the Avengers (including Thor and Captain America) and the Inhumans. First appearance of the Servitor. Final appearance of Odin’s human companion Judith (introduced in #234). Oops: in issue #240 the pyramid was in California’s Wine Country; here it is said to be among orange groves. Revelation: Don Blake has a sexy magazine in his apartment for Fandral to peruse.
