Synopsis

Thor (1966 series) #249 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thor fights his way through the Palace Guard to gain an audience with his father Odin—but the old man refuses him entrance and orders him imprisoned. Thor fights his way through another, larger complement of guards to return to his supporters. The Grand Vizier presents Jane Foster with the sword of the Lady Sif and she is transformed into the woman warrior whose spirit inhabits her body….

In the palace, Odin orders his followers to bring the legendary Odinsword to him; if the sword is drawn from its sheath, the universe will end….

Thor, Balder, and the Vizier journey to the land of the Norns to beg Queen Karnilla to join them in their battle against the All-Father. The proud Queen at first refuses but changers her mind for reasons of her own. They return to the city where Karnilla and Thor’s combined powers tear a hole in the impenetrable barrier—but only long enough for the Thunder God to make it through. Heading to the throne room, the puzzled Thor asks his father to explain why his character is so much changed. As Igron laughs, Odin reveals the truth—he is not Odin but the monstrous Mangog instead, and his plan is to use the Odinsword to end the universe….

Review / Commentaries

Thor (1966 series) #249 Review by (August 29, 2014)
Review: Not that anyone was really concerned about Odin’s mental state—and those who looked at the character lists that follow these synopses will have figured it out anyway—but the issue was pretty entertaining and the Norn Queen has become a fairly interesting character over the years, though it would take Walt Simonson to make her truly sympathetic.

Comments: Part two of a three-part story. Sif sacrificed her life essence to save Jane Foster in issues #236-238.
