Story Name:

The Ties That Bind Part 1

Synopsis

Black Widow #1 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, enters a building in Manhattan, beats up everyone she encounters, blows a safe and makes off with an object, steps out of a window and calls Hawkeye for her exit. An arrow with a line thunks into the side of the building perilously close to her face and she climbs across to a neighboring building, to be met by Captain America, Hawkeye having departed to avoid talking to Nat. She hands over the item and vanishes when Cap isn’t looking….

Nat returns to her apartment and realizes someone is inside; she climbs out through the hall window and walks the ledge to her window. As she is climbing through she is transfixed by a flashlight beam and shot with three darts, falling out of the window….

San Francisco, three months later: Natasha is working as an architect. While delivering plans to a construction site she scares all of the men by leaning dangerously over the side of a high floor to retrieve a piece of litter before skipping off with no concerns. While heading home, she is caught in the background of a newscast so Hawkeye and Winter Soldier spy her on the news. They decide to go check on her as she hasn’t been seen for months….

On impulse Nat buys a motorcycle and heads home to her loving fiancé James, unaware she is also under surveillance by Arcade, who is awaiting his orders to kill her….

Review / Commentaries

Black Widow #1 Review by (December 7, 2020)

Review: A new ongoing for Nat, timed to coincide with the release of the BLACK WIDOW solo film in November—you know, the one that was pushed off to 2021 because of the coronavirus. It’s always hard to tell about a new comic just from issue #1, at least since they started stretching every story to five or six issues to fill a trade but this one seems a bit…different. Not your typical dark spy stuff but Natasha’s life and brain totally changing to make her into a normal person. The next issue (I peeked ahead) will put a few chinks in her armor and we’ll have even more questions but so far it’s good. Kudos to Thompson and Casagrande.

Comments: Black Widow and Hawkeye’s falling out happened in TALES OF SUSPENSE (2017 series) #100-104.
